DEATH OF A VENERABLE CLERGYMAN. The Rev ETHAN SMITH, died at the residence of his son-in-law, in Boylston, Mass. on Wednesday last, in the 87th year of his age, and after 60 years of faithful service in the christian ministry. Mr Smith belonged to an age which has now well nigh passed away. He died in full possession of his mental faculties, manifesting, as might be expected, the fullest assurance of the faith which he preached through life. Mr Smith was as well known as an author as a preacher. Among the publications which have illustrated his studies and attainments, is a learned work on The Prophecies, which has passed through several editions, and another on the American Indians. The family of Mr Smith were remarkable for their longevity, and he leaves many descendants. He was a brother of Deacon Jacob Smith of Hadley. His mother died in Hadley a few years since, at the advanced age of 102 years.
